Everybody is our inspiration

We often seek out for inspiration before we start something. We constantly go looking into the lives of some great people and read their autobiography in order to know how did they struggle to get the top. But we often forget one thing. Everybody we meet has a story to tell. Everybody has a story of triumph, story of failure, story of love and story of hate. Everybody we meet in our life in a way inspires us to do something. But we often fail to recognize that fact. The story of how a king got inspired from seeing a spider’s effort to build a web is a very good example which tells us that everybody and everything inspires us in someway.

The owner of a small departmental store in your neighborhood might surprise you if you ask him about his success. The same way a barber might tell you his misfortune or failure if you ask him. There’s nothing wrong in doing that. A lot of people around us keep looking for someone to listen to them.

When i was doing my Masters degree, i had the habit of going to the library twice or thrice a week. There used to be a bag deposit room in front of the library where we keep our bags before we go in. One afternoon i went to the library and came back a couple of hours later in order to collect the bag. The security, an old man in his fifties who’s managing the bag deposit area started speaking to me. We were speaking for a couple of minutes and i asked about his family. The moment i asked the old man , he started crying. He held my hands and told that their children abandoned him after they got married and now he’s working as a security guard to make a living. Tears are rolling from his eyes as he spoke. I was in complete shock and had no idea of how to react to that situation. I told him that everything will be all right and its just a matter of time. I am not sure that it would have helped him , but i listened to him which would have made him feel better.

A couple of years back i was traveling in a government bus. I met a man who was sitting next to me and we started talking. He told me that he studied only 10th standard. The moment he told that i thought that he would be a carpenter or some worker who works for daily wages. When i asked him about his profession , he told me that he is working for a company that makes digital inverters and his job is to sell them . He told me he is earning 30 to 40 thousand a month. I was in complete shock after hearing that. He told me all about his initial days in the company and how he worked hard to come to that position.

These two incidents taught me a great lesson. Anybody you meet might have a great story with them that can inspire you , open your eyes and give enlightenment. So its not fair to ignore anybody. The words they speak might either tell you how to do a thing or how not to do a thing.

Sometimes i face the question that “who is your inspiration in photography ?” and my answer would be “Anybody with a camera is my inspiration”. That is true. Every photographer will have a different perspective which could give you some new ideas. So stop looking for inspiration somewhere else. Its within you and it is around you. All you need to do is, adjust yourself to see it.
